Modern soccer is unimaginable without beautiful, long-range shots on goal, such as Cristiano Ronaldo is famous for. Without goals flying into the net from 30 meters. So how do you train for this kind of shot? This is the question we will try to answer.
- Relax your whole body before striking. This is where the “whiplash effect” comes into play. You will hit the ball much harder if you hit with your foot relaxed. Imagine that your limbs are tensed all the time. In this case, it will not have the proper effect, and the ball will not fly as far as you would like it to. The only place to tense up is the ankle.
- Place the ball in striking position. Step back a few yards. Spread out and swing with kicking foot. The last step before the kick should be long enough. The heel of the kicking foot should almost touch the gluteal muscles. Allow your knee to go forward first. And at the last second, straighten your leg in a whiplash motion “through the lying ball.” Bring your body back a little bit.
- Always watch how your foot touches the projectile. If you can clearly see the whole process, you will hit harder and more accurately. This technique allows you to control your body, giving extra acceleration to the ball. Test this by hitting the ball against a wall. This will help you gauge the power of the shot. Always ask your team’s goalkeeper how hard or easy it is for him to kick the ball. This, too, will be an indicator of increased hitting power.
- Practice hitting the ball day in and day out. Once you have mastered the theory above, start hitting the ball as often as possible. You can even do this before and after practice. Ask your coach to give you more time for this kind of exercise so that results in this component will appear faster.
- Strengthen the muscles and joints in your legs. Without general physical activity it is impossible to progress on the field. Always remember this. Exercises such as the shoulder squat with a partner, split jump, shuttle run, lunges with a barbell should become your regular program. After a while you yourself will be surprised at how much your power of hitting the ball has increased.
